I have a slightly different use case. I don??t have a kid but a 72 year old sister with dementia who lives in my house. When I go out for longer than a couple hrs I can let her caregiver know and she will open up the app and check in on her so I can have some time off. I have other cameras as well but this one is excellent. My caregiver, from her home, opens the app and can monitor my sis and run over if there is a problem. Heck, even a sibling back east can log in and check in on her. I had no problem setting it up. The app is easy to use (though baby-centric but that??s ok), and the quality of the pic is excellent. You can pan/tilt the camera as well so I have great vision of the house and her usual sitting places. I??ve just ordered another camera for a different part of the house. I can see this camera being used to check on a parent, a new puppy, etc. My only critique is that I couldn??t find anywhere if there is a size limit for the memory card. If you want to pay back video you have to have a memory card inserted in to the camera. Else it??s just real time. The app works on iPhone and iPad. The monitor that comes with it is also excellent. And the night vision, like other reviews, is excellent. I??m super impressed. Highly recommend this product.
