How to Child-Proof Once Baby Is Walking

Nov 11, 2020

As your child grows older and starts walking, you want to make sure that you’re prepared for it. You will have to create a guideline for yourself and consider all the things that you will have to baby-proof. There is no denying that once your child starts walking, they will be running around, getting to almost every corner they can find. So, it is up to you to make sure they have access to safe areas for them. Otherwise, there is a possibility for a lot of mishaps. Avoid injuries for your baby and child-proof your home using the following tips.

Install Window Guards

The first thing that you will need to do is get guards for all of your windows. No matter how tall or high the windows are, you want to make sure that you add a window guard to them. This will limit how much the windows can open. So, it will allow your baby to test out how they open, but it will limit any risks of extending their bodies through it.

Block Out Electrical Outlets

One of the main things that babies like getting into is sockets. They think their finger will fit in all of the sockets, especially those that they have just taken out of their mouths. Avoid electric shocks to your child and block out all electrical outlets. This will ensure that your baby is safe from any electrical wirings or sockets that would pose risks to them. Moreover, you can all cover them by placing large furniture in front of them.

Place Baby Gate For Stairs

You want to make sure that you have a baby gate for stairs installed at all the right locations. You don’t want your child to trip and injure themselves. So, even before your child starts walking, get a retractable baby gate so that you can keep them safe from falls at all times. This is will also give one thing less to stress about once you have your child running about the house.

Lock Rooms With Potential Hazards

If you have home offices, laundry rooms, or any other rooms in your home that may pose a risk to your child, then you should keep these doors locked. If these doors don’t have locks, then make sure that you get locks installed. Otherwise, you will find your child running towards these rooms every chance they get. With the doors locked, you will know that there is no way of them getting inside.

Get Rid Of Choking Hazards

You will have to keep a sharp lookout for anything that might be small enough for your child to take in their mouth. Whether it is your decoration items or anything at all, make sure that you keep them out of your baby’s reach so that there is no possibility of them choking.

All in all, you will have to make sure to check all the things that might cause your child harm. Get rid of these things or block their contact with your child to keep your baby safe.
